OUR MISSION
Reaching Our Community\'sKids (or R.O.C.K. as we usually go by) was founded with the mission to help train our young people to have a positive relationship with God, their parents, those in authority, their neighborhood and the city they live in.
OUR HISTORY
R.O.C.K. was founded by Allen and Kathy Love in 1998. Between the two of them they have 60 plus years of working with high-risk kids. Because of their love and concern for this population of children, their aim was to create programming which would give these children an opportunity to feel cared for, not only by other caring people, but by God and a chance to see that there was hope for the future. We were incorporated in the State of Nevada and shortly thereafter became a 501(c)3 organization with the IRS. The target population for our first program was high-risk children in low-income high crime areas where there is also a high level of low self-esteem. We leafleted an area and invited the children and their parents to a Kids Church. We held the Kids Church in a rented room at the Doolittle Community. The church was held on Saturdays because the community center was not open on Sundays. Our Kids Church continues on Saturdays today. In May of 2002 R.O.C.K. started a Sunday Worship Service for people of all ages.
In October of 2000 R.O.C.K. signed a contract with the State of Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) to provide an after-school/day treatment program for children ages 5 to 18 with social, emotional, and behavioral concerns. A contract with Nevada Medicaid was signed shortly after. The majority of the children attend our program through Nevada Medicaid while DCFS funds the children who have no insurance or those whose insurance will not pay for such a program as ours. A very small percentage of our children have private insurance. Although R.O.C.K. is a faith-based organization, our day treatment and other mental health programs do not teach scriptures to the children. They do teach and encourage Biblical principles of love, sharing, honesty, integrity, kindness, respect for people, property, authority and each other.
In May of 2002 we started to offer Basic Skills Training. In January of 2006 R.O.C.K. offered Psychosocial Rehabilitation Training. In most cases these services are offered in a 1:1, home or community setting.
